Beauty in diversity
The skin microbiota is a highly diverse community of bacteria and other microorganisms that live on the surface and in the deeper layers of human skin. More and more attention is being paid to the proper functioning of these microorganisms, and numerous scientific studies show that the skin microbiota plays a key role in maintaining the physiological balance and physical barrier of the skin. A dysfunctional skin microbiota can lead to a dysregulated immune response in the human body and thus to the development of many conditions such as atopic dermatitis (AD), psoriasis and acne.
The increased use of household detergents and antiseptics (due to the COVID-19 pandemic) has dramatically reduced the abundance and diversity of household microbes. Since many of the disinfectants are also applied topically to the skin, disruption in the composition of the human skin microbiota is inevitable. This can lead to the development of serious inflammatory skin diseases in the future.
Therefore, Microbiota Med is researching a dermocosmetic based on high-quality prebiotic ingredients of natural origin with clinically proven beneficial effects on the diversity of the skin microbiota. It is aimed to prevent disorders in the composition and functioning of symbiotic microorganisms living on the skin.
